Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My music video uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products, I have achieved this by researching into the genre conventions and watching other similar products, for example the main outline/theme of my music video is a fast paced, high energy and high cut rate, the reason I chose to have my music video like this is because when I was analyzing other media products from this genre this was the most common convention between all the video so I took what I had learned here and implemented into my video, another way I developed and challenged the forms and conventions of real media products was through the costume my main artist was wearing as it carried similarities between other artists such as 'Logic' and 'Eminem' as they both wear casual clothing for example hoodies, sweatshirts and jeans etc... I challenged this convention by using lighter clothing which is not commonly seen in the rap genre but I believed it would work with this song as the song is up beat and carries a positive vibe with it.
Another wat I have developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media products was with the color palette, for example I have used a fairly standard color palette for my music video as its not dark and not light, I also used a black and white filter when filming, these are all conventions of real media products in this genre for example if you look at the artist logic his videos are normally shot with standard color palettes, and then if you look at 'Eminem's' music videos they usually contain a lot of black and white clips, another example of how I have developed and challenge the form is through my editing as it carries a lot of characteristics of real media products in my genre, these characteristics are fast flowing/high cut rate videos these are often seen in the rap genre as the pace of the songs are much higher so there is more to cut for.

The next way my video develops and challenges real media products is through the acting and performance as in my video my artist is really energetic and using a lot of hand gestures and improvising with the song so for example at one part of the video the lyrics are 'heading to the top' so I thought it would be good if my artist pointed up to the sky as it would fit in with the lyrics, using hand gestures and high energetic movement is a key part of the rap genre as when rappers rap they tend to use there hand to keep in rhythm and to make there music flow so implementing this into my video was key as this is a big aspect of the rap genre.
Moving away from my music video, my digipak and magazine advert also both develop and challenge forms and conventions of new media products for example my second digipak has a lot of jewelry on the cover and has a image of the rappers face this is one of the most common things to see on a rap digipak cover this is because it is known that rap artists are quite arrogant and like to show of there wealth, for example if you compare my digipak to Kanye West's digipak cover you can instantly see similarities for example they are both vectored images in a similar style and they both have jewelry on the covers e.g. Crowns.

My magazine advert also develops and challenges real media products it does it through the typography I used because the font I used is similar to the font 'Jay Z' uses and so I developed his idea and changed it slightly and overlapped the text on my magazine advert and added opaque boxes to make some of the text stand out, another reason why my magazine advert develops and challenges real media products is through the image as I have used a black and white filter on it and this is commonly seen on rap posters, magazine adverts etc...

Magazine advert WIP
To create my magazine advert I used photoshop, I used photoshop as it allows you to make precise adjustments and allows you to edit the texts kerning and text height etc...

The first step in creating my magazine advert was picking a main image for the advert, I chose to take a screen shot of a clip that I filmed for my music video, the reason I chose this image was because it is quite a common stance and pose for a rap artist and I thought it might appeal to the audience.

The next step in creating my magazine advert was to make the image look less dull, so I decided I would change it and have the background black and white and have the artist in color to do this I added a gradient and made it black and white I then got the rubber tool and rubbed out where the artist was on the gradient layer.
The last step in creating my magazine advert was creating the text, to make sure I got the text perfectly where I wanted and the right size I dragged the 'character' window down so I could edit the text whilst zoomed in.
Digipak printed
This is my finished digipak printed off, I printed it off to see what it would look like in its physical form.
Digipak WIP
To create my digipak I used Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator I used these programs as they are the best for creating digital art, and by using these programs my final piece comes out looking more professional.
The starting point for my digipak was the front cover was the vector image I made, I then dragged this photo onto photoshop and began to add the details, I then added the text that I had created on Illustrator.
The next step in creating my digi pak was adding the parental advisory logo, this logo has to be placed on albums which contain explicit words, so that parents are warned that this is not suitable for children. (Parental Advisory Description)
I then started to create the back cover of my digipak to start the back cover, I began adding the text on the back which was the track list, I then added some little details
I then added the copyright information, the barcode and the artists website.
I then began creating the inside panel, to begin creating this I used the same vector image that I used on the front and halved it, I also added a signature so that it looked like the artist had signed his work.
Finally, I began creating the panel of where the CD goes to create this I added a vector image of a crown.

also in the advert they use a rough drawn text which is seen quite a lot in this genre of music, for example on this album they use the rough text on the album cover, the reason the advert makers use these conventions are because they want to attract people from this genre to buy this album

Editing WIP
Editing Work in progress:
The first thing I did when starting to edit my video was get the lip synced clip and try and get in time, I did this first because I can then cut edit which is where you put clips above the main lip sync bit and just have the lip syncing cut in and out.
When editing my video I use effects from the 'effects' window, in this window there is a wide range of effects to use with stylise effects etc.. there is also a wide range of transitions and colour correctors as well as Audio effects.
In one segment of my video I used a fade to fade out the one clip and fade in the next clip, I did this by clicking the end of the one clip and clicking 'cmd-t' which adds the fade onto the end of the clip
In another segment of my video I used a standard transition, I don't normally like using these as I believe it looks to generic, but in this case it flowed with the video as the pull transition went down with the hand motion.
Digipak Research
Most albums include website details and address details on the inside of the cover because this could be the first time this person has brought this artists album and they might want to find out more about the artist, the website details and address is usually found on the inside of the cover.
Barcode:The barcode is featured on the back of the album digipak and with like most products it is there for scanning purposes.
Song names and Song length:On the back of most album digipaks, song names and song lengths are featured on the back, so people can see which songs feature on this album, because the audience might just be buying this album just because they like two of there songs, so having the song names on the back notifies them.
Record company logo:The records company logo is usually on the spine and on the back of the album digipak this is because the company is promoting itself and because the artist releasing the album is signed for them they technically own it so it is also there to show it is there's.
Artist name on spine:The artists name is usually featured on the spine because if the album is sold in a shelf where the spine is only visible people would be able to see which artist is where.
Artist name and Album title:The artist name and album title, is almost featured on every album front cover this is because it notifies people that this is the pacific artists album and the album title is there because it shows people which album it is.
Band Members:The band members are featured on the inside of the cover because it shows people who was part of the creation of the music and it gives them the fair credit they deserve also people might be interestedin one of the instrument players and might want to learn more

Rap digipak conventions
When looking for ideas for my digipak I researched into the conventions of a rap digipak/album covers, when doing this research I found out that they usually include, for example rap covers usually include dark lit rooms with the main artist lit up by a overhead light, they also usually include street graffiti and rough streets and the costume that the artists normally where is just casual clothes such as hoodies, jeans and tank tops.
